February 10, 2024: Zayden Turns 8 Months Old
This morning, as I started our day, I couldn’t help but marvel at how Zayden’s personality is blossoming. Over the past 3.5 months, he has made incredible progress and continues to teach everyone involved in his life that nothing can hold him back.
Zayden is a little charmer, capturing hearts wherever he goes. With just one look, he can make you feel guilty if you’ve done something to displease him. Then, in the very next moment, he has everyone laughing with his playful antics, soaking up the attention. He growls in adorable protest when he disagrees and cries with soft whimpers (growing louder by the day) when he’s sad or in pain.
This past week, he made it abundantly clear that he prefers to sleep on his tummy—and no amount of rolled blankets or bean bag barriers will keep him from finding his favorite position. He’s determined and unstoppable!
On Monday, February 10, 2025, Zayden received his leg braces. Unfortunately, the fitting process upset him greatly, as his brace specialist had to gently force his feet into them. It’s been five days now, and I’ll admit I’m still unsure about the pacing of this adjustment. The current schedule—having him wear the braces all day—feels a bit too fast.
Each time we put the braces on, Zayden expresses his discomfort with tears and anguished vocalizations. His little feet and calves turn bright red, which fades after a short time, but still screams, “OUCH!” It breaks my heart, and I can’t help but question if we need to ease into this process more gradually.
This week, Zayden also had his OT and PT sessions and got a brand-new car seat! His growing little body had finally outgrown his infant seat. At the car seat appointment, he weighed in at 23 lbs 4 oz and measured 28 inches tall. Our boy is growing so fast!
In another fun milestone, Zayden and Grammie surprised GG with a new lift recliner. We considered it a Valentines gift for GG and Zayden. Of course, Zayden and Grammie promptly tested its comfort by taking a cozy nap together. Later in the week, Zayden had an equipment evaluation to round out his busy schedule. He even got to join his nurse and Grammie in picking up GG for their weekend together. By the time we got home, Zayden was completely wiped out. He slept soundly through the afternoon and into the evening, a well-deserved rest after such a full and eventful week.
