Yet again, another insurance denial had to be fought so that Zayden could get the antibiotic he needed for the bacterial infection, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa. As you can see from the Insurance denial letter, these insurance companies like to waste time. This not only allows the bacterial infections to continue growing in their patients but also puts these patients at risk for long-term damage to their lungs that could have been prevented with a shift approval based on the individual patient instead of a computerized criteria that says only people with Cystic Fibrosis, (CF,) need this medication.
It's very frustrating to constantly fight the same fight time and time again, solely because there is no FDA-approved treatment for any of the Myotonic Dystrophies. Treating Congenital Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1 consists more of managing the symptoms or complications of the disorder than treating the disorder as a whole. CDM is not the only disorder out there that has no FDA-approved treatment for that particular disorder, disease, illness, etc. More often than not, medications are submitted to the FDA with one illness that it effectively treats versus every illness, disorder, etc. that it is effective in treating. How many people would not have effective pain treatment if medications that were FDA-approved to treat psychiatric disorders were not found and used to treat pain? This can be said about almost every medication on the market being used for off-brand uses.
How do we as a community get this through the thick heads of those running and managing the insurance companies so that those needing the medications get the medications that the ones with a medical license are prescribing, deemed necessary to treat their patients, do so for a certain purpose?
