I caught Grammie!!!!

Grammie thought she could just put me down, sneak in a quick kiss and a nose nuzzle, and call it a day… Not on my watch! I grabbed onto her short hair and made absolutely sure I got plenty more kisses and snuggles. Was she upset? Not one bit! Grammie was giggling as I excitedly shared all my little adventures from the day. I adore our cuddle and Storytime sessions—whether she's reading to me or I'm telling her about all the exciting things that happened while she was out running errands, picking up my formula, or getting my new medications. Lately, I’ve been super talkative and love chatting with everyone I like. I don’t enjoy it when Grammie has to leave without me, but I know she always leaves me in good hands—with my favorite day nurse, Dawn, or my new night nurse, Amelia, and soon Mommy and Daddy will be here too.

I’m still getting to know Amelia, my night nurse. She’s fun and speaks to me in something Grammie calls Spanish (Grammie says it’s amazing because I’m learning a new language while I’m young!). Amelia also plays with me whenever I wake up in the middle of the night, which is really nice—even though she wakes me up a lot to check my diaper! She’s small like me, which is a little different since I’m used to always looking up at Grammie and Dawn. Grammie worked closely with my nursing agency to make sure Amelia would be my night nurse. She wanted to make sure we had extra help, especially after things got really scary last week.

You see, I gave Grammie and Nurse Dawn quite the scare. Late last week, I suddenly stopped breathing, and my heart stopped too. I had to take an ambulance ride to Galiano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. Once they stabilized me there, I was airlifted by helicopter to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was my first-ever helicopter ride—and hopefully my last for anything medical! Grampa keeps telling me that when I’m older, he’ll take me to the airport with his friends so we can go on a fun helicopter ride instead. Grammie and Nurse Dawn stayed with me until the flight crew took me onto the helicopter. I spent two nights (almost three days!) in the Johns Hopkins PICU before I was finally allowed to go home with Grammie again.

Now that I’m back home, Grammie says I need extra medications, but at least I can sleep in my own bed, play with my toys, and see my favorite nurses again. While I was in the hospital, the doctors diagnosed me with a few more health issues, which means I’ll need to start seeing some new doctors. They’ll help create treatment plans so Grammie, Mommy, Daddy, GG, my nurses, and the rest of the team can help me grow strong and stay as healthy as possible. I’m not thrilled about all the extra doctor visits, but don’t worry—I’ll charm them just like I charm everyone else!
